Applications are now open for the Herschel Programme for Women in Technical Leadership, a national initiative designed to tackle the underrepresentation of women in technical management and leadership roles.

Funded by Research England and delivered by the UK Institute for Technical Skills and Strategy (ITSS), the programme is open to women from all technical disciplines, including the arts, creative industries, textiles, engineering, and science.

The 2026 programme will run for six months from January, with applications closing on 4 November 2025. Most of the programme will be delivered online, with one in-person event taking place at the conclusion.

Since its launch in 2021, the Herschel Programme has supported around 1,000 technicians from more than 100 UK institutions, providing skills, tools, and networks to help them progress their leadership journeys.
