Edd is Professor of Mathematical Biology and Faculty Dean for Research in the Faculty of Science and Health. His research is focused on using novel mathematical and computational techniques to study problems in biology, ecology, and animal and environmental sciences. Edd’s main interest is in movement ecology, developing theoretical models and empirical analysis tools to understand animal (including human) movement and behaviour.
Jo is Technical Manager for the Technician Commitment at Kent and co‑chair of the EARC Technicians’ Network Steering Group. Since joining the University in 2011, she has supported technicians, managed projects, presented on Technician Funding in Research, built links with the Science Museum, and developed equipment‑sharing agreements with Eastern Arc. Jo is passionate about creating positive impact through championing the Technician Commitment.
Chris has over 15 years’ experience working in technical and technical management roles and is one of the four co-chairs of the EARC Technicians’ Network Steering Group. He is currently the lead at Essex for delivering on the Technician Commitment action plan, developing the plan and liaising with key staff within the University to deliver on its key strategic elements.
Alex is a Chief Instrument Technician within the Faculty of Science at UEA, specialising in NMR and X-Ray crystallography techniques. Alex is heavily involved in research and consultancy work within the Instrument Platforms at UEA.
Iv is Head of Technical Resources, Facility and Services for the Faculty of Science at UEA, overseeing technical services, infrastructure, facilities and core services. He began his career as a technician in Australian universities, where he was an active member of the Health and Exercise Science Technologists Association (HESTA), promoting the sharing of skills, knowledge and resources and professional development for technical staff.
Daniel is Head of Embedded IT and Technical Services for Information Services, providing strategic direction and leadership, delivering audiovisual technologies, learning spaces and personal computing. He is also responsible for delivering the University’s Technician Commitment action plan, promoting recognition, sustainability, and career development for technical staff.
Phil was previously Operations Manager for a large secondary school, overseeing all infrastructure and support services. He also spent over ten years at UEA, in roles within the Faculty of Science. Phil has experience as a postdoctoral researcher, a technician, manager of UEA’s Instrument Platforms and a laboratory manager for the Schools of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Environmental Sciences.
Bethany began her career as a secondary school English Teacher. Before joining Kent in 2025, she worked in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at University of the Arts London. Since 2019, Bethany has also been a part of the editorial team for Feminist Encounters: A Journal of Critical Studies in Culture and Politics.
Kirsty recently supported the University’s Careers team, administering student programmes and coordinating large-scale events, including the annual Careers Fair. Previously, she worked at the National Centre for Social Research, overseeing the bid process. She has also worked in the cruise industry, creating and writing tour programmes.
Since 2018, Liz has held Project Management and Business Development roles at UEA, mainly within the science faculty and more recently with Norwich Business School. She has a commercial background, having previously worked in account and regional management roles across the FMCG food and drink sector and the all-energy industries.
Helen has worked as Technical Administration Officer for the Faculty of Science at UEA for over 11 years. Prior to this, she worked in further education as an assessor, verifier, and tutor on apprenticeship programmes across Norfolk.
Leonie joined Kent five months after graduating from the University and began as an Assistant Laboratory Technician for Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences in December 2023. She progressed to Laboratory Technician in August 2024 and has hands on experience supporting laboratory teaching, research and day to day technical operations.
